Setting Up IP Discovery for Your School or Library
Overview
IP Discovery makes it easy for students, teachers, and patrons to discover graphic novels, manga, and comics when visiting your physical locations.
When your network is verified, anyone using a computer station or connecting a device to your building's Wi-Fi can open your Comics Plus web portal and explore your collection right away without an initial login barrier.
How On-Site Browsing Works
The table below outlines how Comics Plus behaves based on user location and device type:
| Activity | On-Site Building Network (Web) | Outside Network (Home/Cellular) | Mobile Apps (iOS & Android) |
| Browsing & searching the catalog | Open access (no login required) | Account sign-in required | Account sign-in required |
| Viewing book descriptions & covers | Open access (no login required) | Account sign-in required | Account sign-in required |
| Opening and reading a title | Account sign-in required | Account sign-in required | Account sign-in required |
| Adding titles to "My Shelf" | Account sign-in required | Account sign-in required | Account sign-in required |
Why is a sign-in required to read? Requiring a quick sign-in before opening a comic ensures readers can save their bookmarks, sync their reading history across devices, and access content appropriate for their age or grade level.
Information Needed Before Setup
To protect your account security, IP Discovery settings are managed directly by our support team. Before submitting your request, please ask your school or library IT department for the following details:
- Public Outbound IP Address(es): The external, internet-facing static IP address or addresses used by your building network. Internal addresses (such as 10.x.x.x, 192.168.x.x, or 172.16.x.x through 172.31.x.x) cannot be used.
- CIDR / Subnet Range: The size of your network range, such as /32 for a single address or /24 for a building subnet.
- Collection Labels: A label for each address if you are setting up multiple branches, schools, or public networks.
Submit your request at help.comicsplusapp.com. Our support team will verify your network parameters, configure your IP Whitelist, and follow up with a confirmation message once on-site browsing is active.
